This article talks about Mesothelioma cancer (which comes from Asbestos)and how to diagnose it. Many times, it is very difficult to diagonose this form of cancer. Diagnosis of Mesothelioma in Michigan and in all parts of the world begin with an assessment of the patients medical file, a CT scan, a CAT scan, an MRI, and a biopsy. Early detection often times depends on the patient and their ability to recognize the symptoms and be aware of any changes. The problem with diagnosing this cancer in its early stages is the fact that some patients don’t start showing symptoms until 30-50 years after they have been around asbestos.

Here they are two of them and the symptoms that come along with each one. Pleural Mesothelioma (Lungs)

  • Shortness of breath
  • It’s difficult to swallow
  • Pain in the side or lower back
  • Horse voice
  • Persistant cough
  • Fever
  • Sweating for no reason
  • Feeling tired all of the time
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Feeling weak
  • Swelling in the arms and face

Peritoneal Mesothelioma (Abdomen)

  • Unexplained pain in the abdomen
  • Sudden weight loss
  • Feeling nauseated
  • Throwing up
  • Feeling a bump in the abdomen
  • Feeling swelling in the abdomen because of fluid build up

What Is Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a malignant cancer disease that is very rare.  There are actually only about 4,000 new cases in the world per year.  It is a unique cancer being that it is only caused by asbestos and asbestos particles that are inhaled.

There are three types of Mesothelioma in Michigan and all over the world.

  1. Pleural
  2. Pericardial
  3. Peritoneal

These are all basically the same type of disease, but the difference is where the cancer is located in your body.

  • Pleural is when you have Mesothelioma that surrounds the lungs.
  • Pericardial is when you have Mesothelioma that surrounds the heart.
  • Peritoneal is when you have Mesothelioma that surrounds the abdomen.

The majority of Mesothelioma cases in Michigan and in the world are Pleural cases.
